Increasing these values increases the chance of getting a response to a lookup request, but also increases the time it takes to get a response. If names are missing from the device list, try increasing the Retry Interval and Retry Count in the Lookup Settings... dialog. If a System Information lookup fails, try increasing the Timeout and Retry values. If Responder has not already been installed as part of the System Software, drag it from the Apple System Software “Utilities I” disk to the System Folder on the workstation's start-up disk, and then restart the machine. Each Macintosh workstation must have Responder installed to ensure that its name is available to CheckNET. CheckNET lists the names of shared devices, such as LaserWriters, file servers, Macintosh workstations, and other network software services. CheckNET also reports System Information from all Macintosh workstations. CheckNET is a diagnostic tool for AppleTalk networks. Use CheckNET to test an entire network when it is first set up, or to troubleshoot network problems when devices are not communicating.
